A fence tester that measures four things: energy (joules), voltage, loss direction and loss current. Voltage and current: touch the long electrode to the fence wire. Energy: connect the earth lead and touch the short electrode to the wire. Use the wrong electrode and it still shows a figure, but the figure is wrong.
Lacme's guide: docile animals need 2,000 V and 100 mJ at every point of the fence; animals with thick hide, fur or wool need 2,500 V and 300 mJ.
Takes a 9 V battery (6LR61), included, and the earth lead is supplied. It goes to standby when not used.
